Mighty Green Micro Muffins and Giveaway

>> Friday, January 21, 2011

***Giveaway Is Now Closed***

Happy Friday! Let's jump right in: We love the folks at iHerb.com. Not only do they send us great stuff to review (like the Midori Greens in this tasty micro muffin). But they are also incredibly generous to YOU all.

That's right -- they're furnishing another giveaway for us. Keep reading to see how you can win!

First, today's breakfast . . .

I'm always looking for ways to sneak greens into my diet. So, of course, I'm drawn to Midori Greens powder because it packs a powerful nutritional punch -- without weird flavor.

What's inside? Ashitaba, Japanese Matcha Green Tea, Wasabi, Whole Leaf Grasses, Herbs & Vegetables, Chlorella, and Marine Phytoplankton -- all of which support gastrointestinal health and overall well-being. How does it taste? The best I can describe is that it tastes a lot like Odwalla's Superfood drink.

In other words: It tastes green. But in a good way that goes well in breakfast foods. Trust me! It blended well into my Chocolate-Cherry Start-Your-Day-Right Smoothie the other day. And in this micro muffin, all you taste is deliciousness! (And chocolate chips.)

MIGHTY GREEN MICRO MUFFINS
(Print This Recipe!)

What you'll need . . .
  • 2 tablespoons flax meal
  • 2 tablespoons whole wheat flour
  • 1 scoop of Midori Greens
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tablespoon Bob's Red Mill egg replacer, just the powder
  • 1/2 (heaping) teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup (or agave)
  • Handful chocolate chips

Method . . .
  1. Whisk together the dry ingredients (flax, flour, midori powder, cinnamon, egg replacer, and baking powder).
  2. Then add in the wet ingredients (applesauce and maple syrup).
  3. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  4. Spritz a mug with canola oil and pour your batter into it.
  5. Microwave on high for 2 minutes. Let cool for one minute. Then turn onto a plate and enjoy!
If you like this recipe, you'll probably like our Pumpkin-Chocolate Chip Micro Muffins and Banana-Chocolate Chip Micro Muffins, too!

And the winner is . . .

>> Wednesday, June 9, 2010

Congrats to Grace (from Grace Between the Covers) for being the winner of our iHerb.com giveaway!

Grace writes:

"I heart iHerb! My favorite natural product, in addition to my Burt's Bees stuff, is my Sunbutter. I can go through a jar every 3 days or so . . . but I try to limit myself. I also love all my veggies from the Farmer's Market. [With the prize] I would get more but our resources are so limited where we live. This $50 would be just the ticket to try out some additional natural products!"

Didn't win? No worries. As I wrote in our last post -- you're a winner even if you didn't snag the shopping spree today. That's right! You ALL get use of a special coupon code (NEV143) to get $5 off your first purchase at iHerb.com. And if you're looking at the photo above, it's kind of like getting one of those items free!

But wait . . . there's more! Later today we'll be announcing yet another giveaway. Stay tuned for that because, well, it's another chance to win some cool stuff. Oh, yeah. And we also post pretty informative info about running. We share some neat-o recipes. And lots of other great stuff (Richard Simmons, anyone?), too. So, please keep reading for all of that as well :)

iHerb $50 Shopping Spree Giveaway

>> Tuesday, June 1, 2010

What has Stephen jumping for joy? iHerb.com, that's what! OK. Back up. What is iHerb.com? Simply put: It's this awesome place that carries vitamins and herbal supplements (both vegan, vegetarian and even raw), cosmetics and personal care items that are organic and/or cruelty-free as well as over 1000 natural and specialty grocery items.

Now that we've got that straight, I can tell you why they are MORE than awesome. Not only did they recently give us a $50 shopping spree, but they are also giving one of you (yes! you!) a $50 shopping spree! In addition, you ALL benefit from a coupon code (NEV143) that ANYONE can use to get $5 off your first purchase.

There he goes again! Anyway, I'll be the first person to admit that we don't exactly live in the best area to find all the unique and healthy products that I often read so much about in other parts of the blog world. Enter iHerb.com . . . and, well, all that has changed. I could live in the absolute middle of nowhere and -- as long as I maintain an internet connection -- could still get the best ingredients, supplements, and other natural stuff (because there are a TON of categories on this website with anything from herbal teas to baking supplies to earthy personal care products and beyond). It's really that great.

What's better is that they have this fantastically vast inventory, and they've made it incredibly easy to search through. I'll admit -- it took me a while to pick out exactly what I wanted because there's so much. But everything is organized by product, brand, or health topic. It really helped me find what I wanted -- and fast.

Here's what 50 big ones bought me on the site:

Not sure if you noticed -- but that's a lot for $50! One of the best features of iHerb is the price. But don't just trust my word, you'll need to check it out yourself. And now you can! Here's your chance to win your very own $50 shopping spree at iHerb!
  • Just leave us a comment that says I heart iHerb! telling us what you favorite natural product is (be it for baking, beautifying, healing, etc.).
  • I cannot stress enough that we need SOME way to contact you. Leaving an email address is most handy. If we can't find a way to get in touch with you, you can't win.
  • Feel free to tell your friends, too (on your blog, on your Facebook, on your Twitter -- however you wish to spread the word).
  • The giveaway deadline is next Tuesday, June 8th at 9PM EST.
  • We'll choose a winner random using Tara's Random Number Generator.
  • (Also, please note: The giveaway is open to U.S. residents only, and the winner must register at iHerb.com to claim their prize (it's quick and easy, I promise! And they don't SPAM you.)
And remember: Even if you aren't the lucky winner, you can still receive $5 off your first order with iHerb by using the handy dandy code: NEV143.

So, go check out what has Stephen jumping for joy over at iHerb.com. By the time you get your swim trunks on and do a few dives of your own -- your order should be at your doorstep. Yup -- their delivery is wicked fast, too.
