Birdcage Bohemia -- Giveaway Winner

>> Wednesday, April 28, 2010

Hey, everyone. Happy Wednesday! I quite honestly don't know how we're already on hump day -- seems like this week is just breezing by. Anyway, we're happy to announce the giveaway winner to you all this morning. You know, the one who will receive this gorgeous necklace designed just for (never home)maker by Beatrice at Birdcage Bohemia!

The winner is . . . LUCKY NUMBER 13! (Special thanks to Tara's Random Number Generator.)

Our winner is Amy, who is a student living in Nashville, TN. She wrote us: "Oh, my! That's some snazzy bling bling, if I do say so myself. I rarely wear jewelry except for my 3 or 4 necklaces i randomly interchange (I went through a fit two years ago and gave nearly all of my jewelry box away), so I would love a new addition to my newborn jewelry collection." Amy writes the blog Little Wonder, (her "little escape from anything that has to do with [her] daily life") if you'd like to check it out. So, congrats to Amy -- she'll now be the envy of all her friends (and likely 79 of you readers who also participated).

If you didn't win this time around, don't fret. We're close to reaching 1,000 subscribers (966 is the Feedburner count this morning). So, you know when we hit that milestone, it'll be cause for an EPIC celebration.

And be sure to check out some of Beatrice's lovely, eco-friendly works of art (I mean, just look at them -- they're amazing!), at Birdcage Bohemia on the web!

GIVEAWAY: Birdcage Bohemia

>> Monday, April 19, 2010

Hey, there. Boy do we have a treat for you all! The very talented Beatrice Bachleda (of Birdcage Bohemia) has designed a special piece of jewelry just for the readers of (never home)maker. We're were so thrilled when she sent us the pictures. And this post is all about it. This piece drop-dead gorgeous . . . and you can WIN it if you just keep reading.

Here's a bit from Beatrice about the necklace . . .

This Romantic Victorian Love Necklace is made up of a collection of vintage and antique pieces. It features wonderful antiquated silver double-link chain with a handmade hook and eye closure. Two black stone chips, polished to a smooth sheen, are embedded in the chain near the front. Then, a row of ten gorgeous champagne colored costume pearls are linked together rosary-style in the middle. The costume pearls are wonderfully characterized by a slight wearing of the paint. It just makes it all look even more loved.

The pendant is a teardrop shaped black stone framed with an antiquated silver wire that loops around. A series of champagne costume pearls, hammered silver links, and a polished black stone chip create an endearing cluster of treasures at the bottom of the pendant.

And here's some info about her eco-friendly shop:

Birdcage Bohemia is a collection of one of a kind "re-vintaged" jewelry. Think antique keys with costume pearls and shiny new chains. It's mostly eco-friendly, but not completely. The jewelry are created from antique, vintage, and salvaged jewelry parts and found objects, but sometimes, new pieces are sprinkled in. There are large, bold statement pieces using chandelier pieces and chunky antique gold chains, as well as beautiful simple pendants with stained glass charms and tiny vintage glass beads. A limited supply of vintage and salvaged parts makes for unique pieces that can never be recreated. The look is boho chic and glam, modern with a distinct vintage twist; and there's truly something for everyone, so to say.

Beatrice Bachleda is the jewelry artist and runs Birdcage Bohemia out of a tiny town in Ohio. However, she spends all her time traveling to lovely places from Scottsdale, Arizona, all the way to Paris, France, when she's not busy making jewelry. She originally attended school for Fashion Design but soon decided her wings were cramped and decided to "fly free," establishing her jewelry business among other things. The inspiration for her "re-vintaged" jewelry can be summed up in three words: "Poverty and Imagination." Now, she wants to give you a chance to own one of her inspired pieces!

Necklace No. 2

>> Monday, November 30, 2009

Today's lunchtime post is all about necklace no. 2 from J. Crew. Again, it was 40 percent off . . . so, I decided to splurge since I've been in love with it since last fall. The rest of the outfit is a mix of old favorites. Including the boots. Which I wear every chance I get. Regular shoes and boots just don't keep me warm enough. And it's FREEZING in my office today.

Here's the necklace detail. It's a bit old-lady, a bit modern, and a bit classic. I'm all about it.

The breakdown:

sweater: the limited via marshall's
jeans: gap
boots: uggs
necklace: j. crew
