Weekend Things

Thanks for all of your kind feedback on my new approach to blogging. I don’t know exactly how it will work just yet, but I think I got a good start by sharing my feelings on the matter. And speaking of blogging and feelings and all that stuff, can you believe how Young House Love just quit blogging yesterday? Just. Like. That.
I started reading them back in 2007 right after we bought our first home. I think I found their master bedroom in some Google search and liked the Ikea closets covered in curtains. And the combined living room and dining room. In more recent years, I didn’t click over very much -- but a commenter on their goodbye post said it best: It was like the worst season finale of all time!
In other news, it’s the weekend. I’ve been toying back and forth with painting our kitchen cabinets. And I think I’ve finally decided that white is the way to go. I love the no-fuss upkeep of natural wood, but our kitchen doesn’t have a lot of light, so it’s been rather cave-like in the ever-shortening afternoons.

This photo is deceiving because I’m standing in the dark corner by the oven at the absolute sunniest time of the day. I wish it was really this bright. But compared to our tiny old kitchen? I think you can see the major difference.

We’ll see if I get a start over the weekend. The whole project feels overwhelming. Taking of all the knobs and doors. Sanding, priming, painting, and painting again. Has anyone used those cabinet refinishing kits? They promise you can skip many of those steps, but -- of course -- it comes at a premium. So, I’d love to know if it’s worth the steeper price!
