New Year (Thursday)

Happy new year, family and friends!

We spend our NYE at home munching on toasted sourdough bread with beer-cheese fondue, hummus, and spinach-artichoke dip. (Stephen enjoyed some smoked salmon and I had a huge bowl of butternut squash + apple soup on the side.) I sipped ginger ale because I’m finally nearing the end of virus #2 to hit me in three weeks. Stephen poured himself a nice Southern Tier Imperial IPA. We both struggled to stay up until midnight watching Neighbors.
This morning I was feeling a bit better, so I decided to go for a jog for the first time since Saturday. Big mistake. I finished two slow miles near our house before I had to bolt home with the worst coughing fit I’ve had in my entire life. Phew. I think I’ll stick to walking for a few days until I get my lungs back. Heck, I’ve at least got to have a killer set of abs after all this hacking. That cold air sure doesn’t feel nice even after being stuck indoors for so long. I hope you guys had some some races and training runs this morning!
Anyone start the year with a PR?

Side note: New year but same shoes. I’ve tried a few other shoes here and there, but the Nike Free Run + have been working out wonderfully for the last several years. I scored this pair at an outlet closeout sale for around $55. Crazy awesome.
And also going on: Until now, we’ve been playing the waiting game to see if stuff would sort out with my cycles. But it’s enough weirdness that my midwife ordered an ultrasound and bloodwork yesterday. The imaging didn’t show anything glaringly wrong inside my uterus, which is both good and bad, depending on how you look at it. I’m waiting for the blood results, but if those turn up nothing (thyroid, mostly) she wants me to start seeing the fertility specialist. I’ve had two strange “periods” that have been almost identical in nature within a few months, and the first was a chemical pregnancy. The second may have been as well, but I didn’t test that month, so we’ll never know for sure.
I think I’ll slow on the TTC talk again after this initial rush of the new year passes. Right now, though, I can’t help but think things like “oh, I hope we have another little one by Christmas next year” and “2015 has got to be the year” and the like. (Shut up, thoughts!) But I am trying so hard to resist attaching milestones to the timeframe of this journey. I already passed a few and it stings that much harder when you get attached to an idea of something prematurely.
Plus, we have a whole lot of love and joy in our lives already.

Speaking of ideas and thoughts and feelings, I’ll be back tomorrow with a few goals going into this new year. (If you didn’t catch my overview of the last 6 years, it’s surely embarrassing for me with regard to stick-to-itiveness!) It may also post a delicious baked ricotta + spinach gnocchi recipe. Not sure if the posting twice in one day thing works for most people. I am used to writing for a couple blogs, so going down to the one floods me with content, so I’m trying to make sense of the best way to present it.
A happy 2015 to you and yours!
