Pregnancy: Week 25

>> Wednesday, March 16, 2016

Not a whole lot has been changing from week to week with my pregnancy, so for now I plan to group and do updates every other week (or so -- who knows, I change my mind constantly). I'm 25 weeks and 3 days today. Just 102 days to go according to my Sprout app. That sounds so far along and so far away all at the same time.

Here's the bump (it's so dark outside today!):

Though I get lots of Braxton Hicks, so far I seem to have avoided irritable uterus. At least how it was with Ada. I credit being able to vary my days between sitting/standing more. And I make a point to lay down whenever I first notice them. This is a true luxury, I know, with working from home. But not having the completely anxiety of contracting all the time has been really nice. I hope it keeps up this way. I probably get 1-2 an hour, max in the afternoon + evenings. They do start to get bad if I sit at my desk or ride in a car for longer than 30 minutes.

After yet another mini-freakout about GBS UTI #2, I decided I'm just going to trust my midwife. I have read a ton of research and info, and because I've had GBS persistently in my urine, I'm highly colonized and have a much greater chance of passing it on during labor. (Ugh. Terrifying.) I'll write more about my thoughts re: labor soon, but with Ada -- I was only laboring for around 5 hours (!!!) before I started pushing. I'm hoping to get those antibiotics in time, but I guess we'll likely be in the hospital for 48 hours after Baby E's birth if I don't get them.

We are trying to make plans for what to do with Ada during labor. Our nearest family is around 2 hours away. And with how fast Ada's labor was + needing the meds immediately, we won't have time to wait at home. So, that's foremost on my mind these days. I'd love your thoughts and experiences if you had a similar situation! Especially if something happens in the middle of the night. Did you ever have to take your child to the hospital with you?

I had officially stopped running at 23 weeks, but I actually did end up keeping with it 3-4 times a week since then. However, I definitely had my last run this pregnancy on Sunday at 25 weeks. It feels OK to continue (especially with my Blanqi tank), but I would rather walk and do other activities. After my runs, I have been particularly tired and achy, and I'd rather not feel that way. I am psyched to start running again in the summer.

We're planning to have Baby E sleep in our room for several months, just like we did with Ada. We have a Pack 'n Play, but I have started looking into Arms Reach Cosleepers. Do you guys think it's worth the extra if I have something similar? I put a call out on a local yard sale group to see if I can find a gently used one. I think nursing in the middle of the night would be much easier with the cosleeper versus the Pack 'n Play.

I'm having some body image issues. I hate that I'm even going there because I am so thankful just to be pregnant, but in my first pregnancy -- I felt pretty amazing. This time around, I started at a higher weight and lower fitness level. But now that the pounds have started to pack on and my fitness has waned, I feel self conscious. Obviously I'm not fretting over the weight or actually getting upset. I'm thrilled to be pregnant and think about this blessing all the time. It's just . . . different. I don't like dressing myself. Everything feels so small. I have around 15 weeks to go. Meh.

I had some name doubt last week and almost changed Baby E's name. But after chatting with Stephen, we're still set on our original plan. Even today when I said it out loud, it just felt right. I think I'm finally starting to envision life with a baby again, which is a big step for me mentally. Yeah. that's my biggest report for this week. I have a sense of excitement rising from within my core that I haven't felt until recently.

Other stuff:

  • Kicks have turned into rolls and those funky long movements. Like when you can feel a hand go from way up here to way down there. There's always a dance party going on in there.
  • Latest cravings revolve around cheese and pretzels, cranberry juice mixed with seltzer water, and avocados.
  • I really, really, really missed a good poached egg atop toast.
  • My glucose test is next week. I failed by a point with Ada and had to take the 3-hour. Let's hope that doesn't happen this time.
  • I get up no fewer than 5 times to pee each night. Have mercy!
  • I've started really thinking about what the baby will look like. We didn't get a good photo from our 18 week scan, but I can tell that her scull is shaped differently from Ada's. It's less round and her forehead seems bigger (maybe more like mine?). Ada thinks the baby will have red hair, but I don't think that's possible with our genetic makeup.
  • We're trying to find a few things for Ada to do that are special this summer. We're thinking swimming lessons, daddy + daughter library dates, and maybe a short summer morning day-camp.
  • There are times when I get quite emotional thinking about those final days when Ada will be my only child. I have a lot to write about it for another day.

Pregnancy: Week 23

>> Monday, February 29, 2016

Blogging hasn't been happening lately, though I don't need to tell you guys that! Random quiet on this space was totally unintentional, but I am hoping to get back into a better rhythm this week. Ada's been hitting some bad sleep patterns (waking up an hour earlier than normal, skipping naps, not going down until after 9PM, etc.). Working from home is great, but not when my time gets crunched so much.

So, we skipped a week. Here's 23 weeks!

News this week:

I have another GBS + UTI. And I totally freaked out about it. I don't understand really why this is happening to me. I read that only 5 percent of UTIs are caused by the GBS bacteria. Then I read the CDC's information on what it can do during pregnancy, delivery, etc. I have a midwife appointment later this week, and I'll probably report more than. In short: I'm freaked out about it and my midwife is getting tired of my neuroses.

I have decided to stop running. At least for now. I don't know. I don't really NEED to stop running, but the pressure and constant need to pee don't make it feel too great. I'm sticking with Barre3 most days (five or so days for 30 minutes to an hour) and walking a lot. I feel strong and centered. If I feel like trying to run in the future, I won't close my mind to it, but I'm also mentally OK with stopping.

I have finally started to gain more weight. At this point, I'm up 9 pounds. I did have some random nausea and vomiting last week, but I think it was an isolated event where I didn't eat enough.

I've been really tired. I want to go to bed by 9:30 most nights and I'd love if I didn't have to do anything until 9:30 the next morning. Though I wake up around 6:30, it takes a long time to get my body going in the morning. I'm trying to take things more slowly.

I'm on antibiotics again. I hate it. It's for the UTI. It's just so weird how Ada's pregnancy wasn't perfect, yet I didn't need anything medical to keep it going. This time I've already had two rounds of antibiotics, lots of progesterone, and baby aspirin. I know it could be "worse" but it just makes me marvel at how different one pregnancy can be to the next.

I did buy the Belly Bandit Upsie Belly, and I wasn't thrilled with it. PROs: It was really well made, high quality materials, and seemed like it would work if I wasn't carrying so awfully low. CONs: It was too bulky and I couldn't sit down in it. So, I sent it back and decided on the Blanqi Body Styler. I should get it tomorrow, so I'll be sure to let you guys know what I think of it.

Other stuff:

New development: Baby E responds to my touch!
Sleep report: I'm like a rotisserie chicken, rotating all night long
When I predict I'll give birth: June 12th
Size of belly: It is actually a lot like when I was 28/29 weeks with Ada
Looking forward to: Ada's big sister class. It's in April!
Delivery location: I'm considering switching hospitals. More on that soon.
What else? I'll be back tomorrow with an outfit post featuring PinkBlush Maternity + a fun giveaway for you guys.

Pregnancy: Week 21 // Video

>> Friday, February 19, 2016

Thanks for sharing all your labor and birth experiences on my last post. I guess there's really no telling if Baby E will come early, late, or on time! One thing is for sure -- I feel way more pregnant at this stage than I did with Ada. I don't mean to moan about it too much, but my aching back! By the end of each night, I am all sorts of a mess. I may invest in a pregnancy support belt soon . . . and a few of your suggested a Blanqi Support Tank, and I like the looks of that.

Bump shot. This is also my standard uniform these days. Yoga pants and a basic t-shirt.

Something different for today -- a video update for you guys today!

Some highlights:

// I'm feeling a lot of aches and pains, especially in my back and lower belly. Apparently I carry pregnancies low, which is why I feel this way, I'm sure.

// My running days are numbered. It's just not comfortable anymore. I need to stop comparing myself to my 27-year-old pregnant self and just embrace what feels best. I'm working on it.

// My first prenatal yoga class is this weekend! I had so much trouble finding one in my area, so I'm really excited for it. Hoping I can meet some other moms and relax.

// Time is really slowing down for me. I'd love if I could reach the viability stage, like, yesterday (around 24 weeks). My next midwife appointment is just shy of this milestone, so it cannot come soon enough.

// I'm taking baths in epsom salts each night to see if it will help with my Braxton Hicks contractions. It's also a nice ritual that is helping me just disconnect and breathe.

// I'd be ready if the baby came today. Not that I want her to arrive early -- but I have everything we need basically just hanging around the nursery. I'm definitely not a typical "seasoned" mom and I'm way too excited about having another baby in the house. It's been so long.

// Overall I'm having some anxiety about making it to the end of pregnancy. I always tell my midwife everything I'm thinking so I'm feeling OK, but I'm not able to ever forget I'm pregnant. It's constantly in my mind, and I kind of wish I could just let go and enjoy. I'm trying some breathing exercises and other relaxation techniques to help.

Other stuff:

How I'm sleeping: Not well. Peeing 10,000 times per night
Weight gained: 7 pounds
Days till due date: 128
Latest craving: Peanut Butter M&Ms
Biggest complaint: Cannot sit without back pain
Feel best when: I'm hunched over my Yogibo at night
Kind of freaked about: The early days of breastfeeding
What I don't care about: My pregnancy style! Thank goodness I work from home.

Pregnancy: Week 20

>> Thursday, February 11, 2016

I'm solidly in week 20 of my pregnancy, so I think it's safe to safe I'm halfway there. With Ada, I went into (fast) labor just a couple days over 38 weeks. I'm wondering what that means for this time around. I'd love to know how your delivery date changed from kid one to kid two! Of course, I'll be happy to keep this baby in until she is fully cooked.

Special guest in my photo this week:

My midwife appointment went well last Friday. I have been concerned about weight gain since I'm still only up 4.5 pounds, but I guess everything is looking well. With Ada, I was around the same weight gain. I took a lot of questions to my appointment with me, and my midwife is awesome. I couldn't be happier with the care and attention I'm receiving.

Since a few days after ovulation, I was taking progesterone and aspirin. I stopped the progesterone in week 15, but the baby aspirin was supposed to continue on until week 22. The thing is, I was concerned with stopping it so soon because I was never formally diagnosed with a clotting issue. A lot of women take baby aspirin for a variety of things until 32-36 weeks, so I asked if I could either get testing for a clotting issue or just keep taking it to be "safe" -- and we agreed that I will take it until week 36.

I have started getting Braxton Hicks contractions more regularly, but it's nothing like when I was pregnant with Ada (fingers and toes crossed!). Still, it's almost like I have PTSD. If I feel one or two, I freak out. So, I'm really watching my water intake. I also asked if I could take a magnesium supplement to see if it helps -- and my midwife said yes. I am now taking about a half dose of the Natural Calm throughout the day in my drinking water. We'll see if it helps. I tend to get them when I am sitting working versus when I'm running or up and about.

I can't remember if I've written about this before, but I keep coming across blog posts and articles written by seasoned moms about how the second pregnancy (or third, etc.) just flies by and isn't as special. Or that they aren't concerned with as much, etc. This hasn't been the case for me for obvious reasons. I think due to the number of years between my pregnancies and the difficulty it took to get to this point, I'm celebrating and cherishing every single moment. In some ways more than with Ada because this might be my last pregnancy. Photos, baby clothes, nursery decorations, and all.

I'm getting stir-crazy for spring. This winter has been mild, but I'm really craving some long outdoor walks for my mind more than anything else. Today the windchill is in the negative digits, so I don't think I'll be getting those walks for some time. For exercise, I've been doing jogs and walks on the treadmill. I jog 3 miles, 4 times a week. I walk on the days when I don't jog. I always take one full day off from exercise a week. I've also been sticking with Barre3 online about 4 times a week between 20 and 45 minutes. I feel strong and centered.

As far as a birth plan goes, I'd love to try and do things drug-free this time around like I did with Ada. But I'm also recognizing that, like with conception and pregnancy itself, so much of having babies just isn't under our control. I'm going to prepare as if I'm doing everything naturally this time around, but I won't fret about it. I won't be taking a birth class this time, but I do hope to brush up on some things just so I can remember everything that happens with my body.

With Ada, I was only in labor (that I really knew) from about 7:30 AM till 12:00 PM, after that it was the pushing that took a while. I worry I will go really fast this time around, honestly. I guess that's another question I have for moms of more than one. How did your births differ?

Other stuff:

Middle name: Picked
Cravings: Ultimate Vegan Brownies -- everything I crave is sweet
Days till due date: 136
Most excited for: Taking walks on summer evenings together as a family
Most worried about: Nursing working out this time around
Currently obsessed with: Aden + Anais clothing!
Upcoming test: Gestational diabetes draw around week 24. Last time I failed by 1 point and had to do the 3 hour test!

Pregnancy: Week 19

>> Thursday, February 4, 2016

Yet again, I'm doing a pregnancy update late in the week. I'm closer to 20 weeks now, but that's OK. Not a lot is different this week, so I thought instead of talking about any symptoms or "changes," I'd focus more on how we're preparing for baby. I have an appointment tomorrow afternoon, so I should have more stuff to chat about then.

It's been dreary and dark all week, so please excuse this blurry bump shot.

First of all, working from home has major perks when it comes to a maternity wardrobe. I've been sticking mostly to yoga pants and loose T-shirts I already own. I bought a few new maternity camisoles at Target. Otherwise, I've been picking up a few stray items, like those jeans above, from second-hand shops like thredUP.

Related: I also sold most of my old maternity wardrobe on thredUP. Somehow I was a size XS back then? I used my earnings to buy a few things that actually fit me now!

OK. Aside from that, I've also been buying some clothes for Baby E. (BTW: Good name guesses -- some of you got it right, but we're likely not sharing until birth.) Ada was born in November, so the bulk of her newborn and 0-3 month wardrobe is made up of cozy fleece and long-sleeved things. Of course, that gives me the opportunity to shop for a summer baby!

Again, I've been loving second-hand shops for baby clothes as well. Stephen and I went on our mini-Babymoon to Ithaca, NY, last weekend. There's no shortage of great places to scope out good deals.

  • I hit up Jillian's Drawers for a few gently used newborn prefolds (Thirsties) and clothing items.
  • Mama Goose is another joint I'd been meaning to check out for, well, years. It did not disappoint. I found tons of adorable clothes, etc. here for good prices. Can't wait to go back in the future.
  • There's also one of those Once Upon a Child stores in my area. I went there yesterday with my mom and found a ton of Zutano (my favorite!) shirts, dresses, etc., all for less than $25.
  • Oh, and I also found a Snugapuppy Bouncer there for half the new price. It will go with the Snugapuppy Rock 'n Play we got for napping in those early days.
  • I've ordered a bunch of things off Zulily too. Mostly gear. A while back they had an amazing deal on an Ergo Original, so I snatched one up. I also found some Aden + Anais swaddle blankets (milky way!), a few clothes, and I have my eye on a few matching ensembles. I never thought I'd say that.

Some of you have asked if we're doing cloth diapering again. The answer is YES.

Though I did get a bit jaded when I ruined all our old cloth diapers, I was able to salvage a few. I thought about the cost and environmental impact of doing disposables, and cloth just made more sense . . . again.
  • We're doing the Best Bottom System for the bulk of our diapering.
  • I bought 8 Best Bottom Snap Covers in various prints. My favorites are the tie-dye and cow.
  • After watching some YouTube reviews, I determined that instead of buying inserts in the small, medium, and large sizes . . . I'd get all mediums (18) of the Hemp/Organic Cotton inserts. Several people said they worked well for small to large babies at this size.
  • I'll be sure to do my own review in time. Basically, you snap the insert into the cover and can re-use the same cover several times versus changing the entire diaper (like we did with our BG AIO's). I am also hoping the hemp will help keep odors at bay.

That's pretty much it for now. As I wrote this post, I got a Braxton Hicks contractions. Eeek. I hope that doesn't mean they're starting. I've noticed a few in the last several days. I know I'm overly sensitive, but I just really hope to skip over that part this time around.

See you back tomorrow with a cooking video!

Pregnancy: Week 18

>> Thursday, January 28, 2016

In case you missed it, our baby is a girl! I'm actually almost 19 weeks. I didn't mean to be so heavy on baby stuff lately. I had some other things planned for this week, but my computer is on the fritz. It involves a tiny bit of water getting into my trackpad. And now my cursor has a mind of its own!

Anyway. Belly shot:

At our ultrasound, the baby was curled up tightly into a fetal position the entire time. I was 18 weeks and 2 days, and the baby measured a day behind. I know it's not a big deal, but up to this point, she had measured exactly right on . . . so I'm hoping the discrepancy has more to do with her position or different people measuring. I'm trying to get better about the anxiety, but hearing anything is even slightly off always gets me worried.

Otherwise, everything was measuring well and looked normal in the anatomy scan. I couldn't tell what I was looking at a lot of the time because of the baby's position. Worst of all? We didn't really get to see her profile because she was hiding so much! Luckily, the tech was able to get all the necessary measurements, so I don't know when or if I'll have another ultrasound during this pregnancy. Which is weird to think about.

After having a few days of sickness last week, I am back to feeling better. I'm pretty sure it had more to do with my sinus infection than anything else. And -- thankfully -- my sinus infection is now BETTER. For the first time since October, I am not afflicted with morning sickness, a cold, or anything else. It feels amazing.

I celebrated with a 3.5 mile jog around my neighborhood. We haven't had much snow this year, but the mild, clear weather has allowed me to keep running outdoors, which is nice. I was curious, so I tracked my pace at 10:30/mile. The bladder doesn't love jogging right now, so we'll see how long it lasts. But otherwise, it feels great. I've also been keeping up with a half hour of Barre four times a week, walking Ada to/from school when it's warmer than 20 degrees, and some yoga.

We are 90 percent sure we've chosen baby girl's name. So, from now on I'll refer to her as Baby E. I won't be sharing the name until birth, but it's nice to call her something. Stephen actually chose this particular name when I was pregnant with Ada. We still need a middle, though.

Braxton Hicks report: I may have had two last week. But otherwise, still holding strong. I hope it continues. In related news, my cervix is long and closed. I have been concerned about having an incompetent cervix after having a D&C, but so far everything looks OK.

Other stuff:

Weight: 141, total gain of 3 pounds so far
Next midwife appointment: One week from tomorrow!
Baby is the size of: A sweet potato -- we're having them for dinner, strangely enough.
Heart rate: 155ish, pretty consistently
Birth plan: Hospital birth, hopefully drug-free again
Prediction of birth date: Ada was 2 weeks early, so I'll say June 12th
Latest obsession: Shopping Zulily for baby clothes
Nursery theme: Farm -- more on that next week!

Pregnancy: Week 17

>> Tuesday, January 19, 2016

The big news this week? I have nausea again! It’s been quite bad, actually. I’ve also had two nasty colds since the start of January -- but I think today I’m finally on the mend. I hope, at least. I even went to the doctor on Saturday convinced I had either a sinus or ear infection, but nothing. She did prescribe me meds if I felt I was getting worse or got a fever, but they were all class C, so thankfully I don’t think I’ll need to take them.

Here’s what happens to the 17-week bump after a 3-mile treadmill jog!

Holy gravity!

I’m definitely growing, that’s for sure. But I’d say this photo isn’t a fair representation of my belly’s true size. It doesn’t normally look much bigger than last week’s shot. The baby is over 5 inches from crown to rump right now. I pulled out a ruler to show Ada and got a bit shocked myself that something that “big” is in there right now.

We find out the sex one week from today. What do you guys think: Boy, girl, alien?! Here’s a rundown of some of the old wives' tales and how the “data” is leaning. I wrote an article early in the fall about why none of the old wives tales are actually true, so I don’t put any stock in this stuff.

Oh, and when I did a post like this during Ada’s pregnancy. Results? I had 7 votes for BOY and only 2 for GIRL! So, check this out:

Morning sickness: Girl, ugh
Cravings: Girl (#allthesweets)
Partner’s weight gain: Boy (Stephen is slim as ever)
Heart rate: 150-160, so Girl
Carrying: Low-ish, so Boy
Gut Feeling: Girl. I even bought a striped pink onesie. (Kept the receipt.)
Mayan table: Girl
Chinese gender predictor: Girl
Ramzi Method: Girl, baby implanted on the left

GIRL: 7
BOY: 2

So, does that mean boy if we’re using 2011 logic? We’ll likely know in seven days.

I’m starting to panic . . . about losing sleep. Don’t get me wrong, I’m over the moon to be pregnant and almost at the halfway point. Sometimes I’m still in disbelief. But now that Ada is over 4, life is SO EASY in the sleep department especially. There are times when I’m just exhausted and get to sleep in till 8. She wakes in the night only when she’s sick, which is rare. I had a rough time with losing sleep during the infancy days, so I guess I need to prepare myself!

Last week’s workouts:

  • M: 3 mile treadmill jog
  • T: Rest
  • W: 3 mile treadmill jog + 15 min walk
  • R: 15 min spinning bike, 15 min treadmill hill walk, 10 min Barre
  • F: 3.5 mile jog outside
  • S: Rest (sick)
  • S: Rest (sick)

My biggest pregnancy complaint right now is my SI joint. I actually had a major SI joint issue when I was in PT for IT-band stuff during marathon training in 2010. It did act up toward the end of Ada’s pregnancy, but it seems it’s already a problem in this pregnancy. I do think it will impact my workouts, especially because the treadmill tends to aggravate it and it “feels like -2” outside, so I’m sticking to indoor workouts. Any tips for dealing with this issue? I may seek out PT or a chiropractor before it gets really bad.

Other stuff:

Weight: 140, no gain since last week (nausea)
Next midwife appointment: at 20 weeks!
Next ultrasound: Jan. 26th!
Baby is the size of: An onion
Ada thinks it’s a: GIRL
Upcoming DIY: Pom mobile based on this one. Stay tuned!

Pregnancy: Week 16

>> Monday, January 11, 2016

Thanks for your kind feedback on my first video post of the new year. I can’t wait to do this week’s -- it’s a goodie! Anyway, onto week 16. I downloaded this app a while back called Sprout Pregnancy. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I looked down at my little virtual fetus and it said 16 weeks.

Well, actually, I totally can believe I’m this far along.

A lot of women told me my second pregnancy would breeze by and go so fast. Honestly? It’s been a lot like my pregnancy with Ada. Crawling. I’m not complaining, but I will say now that some of my anxiety is lifting, I do at least feel like things will speed up.

My appointment Friday was, in a word, routine. I peed in a cup. We listened to the heartbeat. I asked 5,000 questions about being GBS positive (I’ll get to this in another update). Then I made my next two appointments. The first is the anatomy scan when I hit 18 weeks. The second is my 20-week prenatal with my midwife. She’s given me the option to come in for ultrasounds and appointments on the same day, but I’ve enjoyed going to the office more frequently, so I’ve kept them staggered.

I looked back on my updates with Ada. At week 16, I had “finally” given in to the comfort of maternity clothes. Uh, this time? I’ve been wearing them almost all along. I have a lot of normal stuff still in the rotation, but why not break out the stretchy pants?

My midwife said I can use my Doppler whenever I need reassurance. Though I feel movement, I still like to hear the heartbeat once a day. Occasionally I’ll do it twice. There’s a lot of information out there about if this is safe or not, but my midwife said it’s totally fine.

We will be sharing the sex of the baby. (I’m still feeling girl!) We will not be sharing the name. In fact, I’m not planning to share what names we’re considering anymore with family and friends for the most part. Already getting too many opinions. It’s our choice.

I haven’t gotten physically sick in over a week. Score!

I didn’t have any Braxton Hicks last week! Not a single one. I am hoping the car stuff was just isolated. I feel like being pregnant in winter may help. Less activity. Less heat and humidity. At least I keep telling myself that it will be better this time around.

The baby just kicked me. In fact, he/she kicks a lot. Sometimes I put Ada’s hand on my belly and she always jumps with glee and says she feels the baby kicking. I know it isn’t true, but I let her pretend.

Last week’s workouts:

  • M: 3 mile treadmill jog
  • T: Rest (sick)
  • W: 45 min treadmill walk/jog (5 min walk, 10 min run)
  • R: 45 min treadmill walk
  • F: 3 mile treadmill jog + 10 min walk
  • S: 30 min treadmill walk/jog (5 min run, 5 min walk)
  • S: 3.5 mile jog (outside!) + 1 mile cool down walk

Most of my workouts are between 30 and 45 minutes. This is a sweet spot where I get lots of good sweat going but still feel energized afterward. I do think something is up with our treadmill, though. I can jog comfortably at a 5 to 5.2 on it, but no faster. We went to another gym over Christmas and I was doing more like 6 on that one. My outdoor pace is also around 10 minutes per mile.

This week I want to do less running/walking and more yoga/Barre.

Other stuff:

Pregnancy: Week 15

>> Monday, January 4, 2016

I debated doing pregnancy updates. I think for a long time I felt really superstitious about it. But with the spirit of the new year burning inside me, I’ve chosen to enjoy and celebrate. So, that includes doing some updates like I did when I was pregnant with Ada. Covering the important stuff. Some trivial stuff, too.

Like bump shots:

I've been feeling the baby kick for several weeks. I didn’t know for sure if that was what I was feeling at first, but when I used my Doppler, I got the same sensation right where I was picking up the heartbeat. Oh, and if you’re pregnant after loss, I really consider the Doppler essential. I can’t begin to describe how it has eased my anxiety.

My weight has fluctuated a lot in the past year. So, when I got pregnant, I was around 138 pounds. I lost five pounds throughout the first trimester. I’ve gained two from my starting place (yay food!) over the holidays. But this morning I’m back to 138 again.

I gained 25 with Ada, but I’m almost certain I’ll gain much more this time around because I’m taking exercise less seriously. I also don’t care as much this time around (despite weighing myself -- it’s because I’m wanting to see the number climb, actually).

I look at least 20 weeks pregnant by the end of the day. My stomach muscles have been so relaxed and with food, water, and gravity, it’s astounding the belly I have at night. I look back at photos of my first pregnancy and how I said I have a bump and just laugh. No. THIS is a bump. The photo above was taken in the morning, so maybe I’ll do an evening one next time to show you what I’m talking about. And it’s going to be HUGE! I will say that since I went off progesterone, though, the bloat has gone down considerably.

I wake up at least four times a night to pee. I started sleeping with my Snoogle and haven’t looked back. I had it when I was pregnant with Ada, but it never felt totally comfortable. This time around? I cannot live without it. I even bought a new jersey knit cover for it -- best investment ever.

I started having Braxton Hicks while in the car. Thankfully I haven’t noticed them on the regular . . . yet. By this time with Ada, I was already getting them relatively frequently, but week 17 was the real turning point. So, I’m anxious to see how irritable my uterus will become. (Or maybe not?!)

I crave Justin’s milk chocolate peanut butter cups. I also drink a kefir smoothie every single morning, usually with mango. In other news: Our freezer is full of frozen berries that I plop into anything from smoothies to oatmeal. I may even eat some cold. I do still have an aversion to eggs, but I’m working through it (same thing happened with Ada). I’ve also started adding greens back into my diet again. It’s been rough.

My nesting is already in full swing. I think it’s because I’ve had way too much time to think about it. I’ll do a full post, but we got a new crib, changing table/dresser, rug, glider, car seat, ring sling, and even some cloth diapers. We don’t expect to have a shower this time around, so we’ve been buying when we can afford things (and using gift cards/etc.) along the way. It’s nice to know the things we used the first time around so we can skip the extras. Sadly, a lot of our gear is just shot so it’s like we’re starting over!

Ada’s signed up for a big sister class at the hospital where we plan to deliver. I’m excited for her. It isn’t until April, but there’s also a hospital tour included. I know the inside and out of that place, but it will be fun to visit again. I think we’re skipping any childbirth classes this time around. Honestly, Ada’s birth was so fast and furious, I’m a bit nervous that this one will come even faster.

Other stuff:

Baby’s heartbeat: 150s
My guess at the sex: Girl
Exercise: 3 mile jogs, 3-4x/week, walking, yoga
Next appointment: Friday
Next ultrasound: Anatomy scan, sometime between 18-22 weeks
Names picked out: Settled on girl, but have several options for boy
Days till due date: 174!
